Music, Art, Theatre, Deichkind!

DSC_4414Where to start?  Are we talking music?  Theatre?  Art?  Does it matter?  Just who (what?) are (is?) Deichkind?  I’ve already used up my quota of question marks for the year, and I’m not sure I will have any answers in my review of the band at Kunst!Rasen this week.  Maybe you should just look at the pictures.  But that’s taking the easy way out.  Let’s take a walk on the wild side of something that grew out of Hamburg and called itself rather seriously,  ‘Hip-Hop Electropunk’.

Jazz from Nawlins

DSC_4360With a hearty slice of Jazz already digested via Jazztube we were perfectly placed to jump on the next train and head for New Orleans. Well, Echoes of Nawlins was the name of the band and they served up a tasty helping of Jazz that had a crowded Parkrestaurant at Rheinaue dancing.

The band, centred around keyboard player H.P. Schüller, has a few suprises up it’s sleeve though that don’t automatically fit the New Orleans scheme of things such as a nod to Rock with ‘It’s All Over Now’which, as H.P. pointed out. is not a Jagger/Richards composition but actually stems from the pen of Bobby Womack. ‘Jambalaya’ and ‘Tipitina’ were other crowd favourites by the band and made it all the more sad that this weekend sees the last concerts of a busy and enjoyable season. Particular merit stars go out to Susanne Riemer and Danh Thai for their work on Trumpet and sax respectively.
