In German doing something in vain is to do it ‘Für die Katz’ . A visit to Kunst!Rasen on Friday evening was also ‘for the cats’ but certainly not in vain, as local felines MiaoMio and Norwegian ‘Super Felines’ Katzenjammer made the stage in Bonn their territory for an evening of Pop/Rock/Indie/Gypsy Punk/Folk/Cabaret Music.

Kunst!Rasen on TV
If you were at one of the Kunst!Rasen concerts so far this year you might well have seen someone wielding a camera or a microphone. If so, you might even be in one of the videos!
Check out the excellent website of Bonner Szene TV HERE for some first rate interviews with Zaz, Warren Haynes and other top stars, as well as some excellent live clips of the Bands onstage.
Better still, come to one of the concertsand maybe you will be ‘in the picture’ too!
The B52’s land in Bonn
The B52’s first performed in earnest on Valentines Day 1977. Their bouffant’ hairdos were like their music – larger than life, as they went on to sell millions of records and squillions of concert tickets. – and if the sales are a little more sedate now, the band itself is not. Nor were the audience at the final Kunst!Palast concert of 2013 for that matter.
Layla Zoe – The Lily (Cable Car CCR 0311-41)
“I always say at my shows that they’ll have their hearts ripped out – and put back in again” Layla Zoe , the self confessed ‘Firegirl’ has certainly been through the flames this last year. She came out with the hottest disc of her career to date though and in Henrik Freischlader has found the perfect musical foil for her powerful voice and from the heart lyrics. Rather like Iago in Shakespeare’s tragic ‘Othello’, Zoe wears her heart on her sleeve “For daws to peck at” on ‘The Lily’, but feisty girl that she is, survives to tell the tale.
Ian Parker finishes his ‘Stonehouse’
Long time visitors to this site will remember that Ian Parker spoke a lot about his impending new release ‘The Stonehouse‘ when I interviewed him after his Harmonie gig last September.
“There’s a whole scene that’s emerged in Britain. A sort of Folk/Pop thing that’s come out in the last few years where you’re getting these artists that, probably in the same way I grew up with Blues, they grew up listening to traditional Folk but they’ve made it relevant and given it a Pop element so you don’t have to be a Folky to get it, and I started to get it…”
That’s how Ian described the new project last year. Finally it’s finished and advanced tasters suggest it is indeed a welcome nod to a British Folk/Pop style that goes back to the likes of Steeleye Span and has resurfaced of late in the form of bands like Show of Hands and Brothers & Bones. Here Ian explains why things took so long and what we can expect from ‘The Stonehouse’.
Don Airey interviewed in Bonn
Before his Kunst!Rasen concert in Bonn this year Deep Purple keyboard player Don Airey spoke to Bonnticket about his love for Beethoven and his career behind the Hammond of many Rock legends.
Origins of the 3Songs Bonn logo
In case anyone was wondering, the 3SongsBonn logo features one of Britains best guitarists, Jason Barwick of British Rockband The Brew, who takes his jumping seriously – as this clip reveals…
The shot is from a memorable Cologne Rocknacht in July 2009: The show was being recorded by Rockpalast for later transmission and would have been predominantly Joe Bonamassa.
Joe cancelled permission to film his spot however, and The Brew got their whole set aired. The rest, as they say, is History…
Beth Hart – Kunst!Palast Queen
Well finally- the inside of the Kunst!Palast! Not an oil painting in sight (or maybe it was too dark to see them). When the lights did come on though they alighted on a lady whose stage power could have driven the whole lighting rig. Beth Hart has recently played with high-flying guitar heroes like Slash and Jeff Beck, she’s even made entire CD’s with Mr Joe Bonamassa. Tonight she’s out to prove herself hotter than the weather – and boy does she prove it!
