Jazz from Nawlins

DSC_4360With a hearty slice of Jazz already digested via Jazztube we were perfectly placed to jump on the next train and head for New Orleans. Well, Echoes of Nawlins was the name of the band and they served up a tasty helping of Jazz that had a crowded Parkrestaurant at Rheinaue dancing.

The band, centred around keyboard player H.P. Schüller, has a few suprises up it’s sleeve though that don’t automatically fit the New Orleans scheme of things such as a nod to Rock with ‘It’s All Over Now’which, as H.P. pointed out. is not a Jagger/Richards composition but actually stems from the pen of Bobby Womack. ‘Jambalaya’ and ‘Tipitina’ were other crowd favourites by the band and made it all the more sad that this weekend sees the last concerts of a busy and enjoyable season. Particular merit stars go out to Susanne Riemer and Danh Thai for their work on Trumpet and sax respectively.
