Things will be back to their (boringly) normal self again on Friday and Saturday evenings as this weekend saw the final JazzTube concerts of 2015.
I caught two of the last band’s on Friday and can only say once again – whoever doesn’t win is also a winner and the biggest winners of all are the commuters of Bonn who get to hear such excellent music to lighten their travels.
If you turn around at one of the Jazztube concerts on Bonn’s stations the chances are there will be a man wearing glasses and a concerned expression behind you. Thomas Kimmerle is the man behind JazzTube itself in fact, and I managed to squeeze a few minutes out of his busy day to ask where the idea came from and naturally as soon as the topic was jazz – time and questions flew by…
The July JazzTube offerings were very much ‘Ladies Night’ affairs. Julia Kriegsmann’s sax with Ton at Hauptbahnhof, Ukranian Tamara Lukasheva with excellent scat-jazz vocals at Uni/Markt, and Maria Preus with Antiquariat giving Gypsy Swing a young and talented face at Museumsmeile. Good reason then to take two ears and one camera on the Subway once again.
It’s back! Jazztube that is, the chance to relax after a weeks work on the way home by listening to one of the many Jazzbands playing on the tubestation route in Bonn.

3Songsbonn is pleased to announce that ‘Jazz Tube’ will be back again this year.
Between May and October of last year many a commuters hectic journey home was smoothed by the sound of Jazz music wafting up the Ubahn platforms in Bonn. Culmination of the Season was a concert at The Harmonie for the three most popular bands.
Stadtwerke is continuing with it’s sponsorship of this event in 2013 and is currently looking for musicians to take part this Summer. If you are a Jazz musician around 20 to 35 years old and would like to enter, then Thomas Kimmerle of JazzInConcert would like to hear from you.
Sunny Skies & Maya Fadeeva will be brightening up the weekend in Bonn
This weekend has two special musical occasions that are well worth a visit: On Saturday (20 Oct) Local heroes Sunny Skies celebrate 40 Years as a premier Bonn Band – The Bonn Voice Choir, and Hofgarten Orchestra will be joining Rope Schmitz and co to add even more oomph to the Band’s versions of classics like Queens Bohemian Rhapsody at Bruckenforum, and if the snippet shown on WDR television recently of rehearsals is anything to go by, it should be rather special. Rope talked to 3SONGS about the Band recently – INTERVIEW HERE
Also this weekend, Maya Fadeeva is just one of the musicians appearing in the final concert of this years Jazztube competition run by SWB. The three most popular bands from Bonn’s Tubestation competition, as voted for by the commuting public, will be laying down a smooth groove for sure at the Harmonie on Sunday (21st Oct).
Friday saw the final round of musicians in the SWB Jazz Tube. There was The smoothe vocal style of Mara Minjoli and her Quartett at the Main Station, Instrumental rhythm from the Janssen Ladas Duo at Universität/Markt or Cool Sax from Ton featuring Julia Kriegsmann on saxophone at Meuseumsmeile to choose from.
If you caught these or any of the previous acts playing on Friday evenings around the Bonn Tube stations, now is the time to vote for your favourite HERE
The most voted for Bands can be seen at a special Jazz Tube Concert at the Harmonie in Bonn on 21 October.
