My tip for album of the year 2018 is ‘Gemini’ from Layla Zoe.  A double CD showcasing Canada’s ‘Firegirl’ at her fiery best.

Layla will be appearing at Bonn Harmonie on 30 October and 3songsbonn has two tickets to give away.

Henrik & Layla at the Harmonie

A reminder that two always popular musicians are coming to the Harmonie in Bonn very soon.

Both Henrik Freischlader (23 Oct) and Layla Zoe (30 Oct) will be bringing new music to Bonn next week.  Henrik’s ‘Hands on the Puzzle’ sees the Man at his songwriting best and with a welcome return to the Old School  Blues.  Layla’s ‘Gemini’ is a stunning double set that is firmly on my shortlist for album of the year.  My advice in both cases – don’t miss!

Folk Club Bonn number 95 – ever closer on the 100 mark! John Harrison will tell you of the early days when calls were made to get musicians down to this ‘new-fangled’ idea for musical get-togethers in Bonn. 95 shows later and not only is there an anxious waiting list of performers pencilled in often months in advance, but we even have two guest stars in Stefan Mönkemeyer and Matthew Robb. One a virtuoso of melodious guitar pieces, the other a virtuoso of dark and dusty Folk Blues. The Bleak and the beautiful in fact.

Bill Baum – 25 Years a Bad Boy

They are now so much of a musical institution in Bonn that it’s hard to imagine a music scene here without Bill Baum and his partners in music The Bluesbenders. It was then, a mark of the respect Bill has gained from the Blues scene, that for his 25th Anniversary show at Bonn Harmonie, Bill was joined by a man nominated in three categories for this year’s International Blues Awards, Richie Arndt. It was guaranteed to be a good evening for Bonn Blues lovers.

Band of Friends Interview 2018

You only have to look at the smiles onstage to know that these guys really are a Band of Friends. Gerry McAvoy and Ted McKenna were both a part of the Rory Gallagher band – Gerry since it’s formation in 1971 where he became such a mainstay that Rory never got round to even having him sign a contract (it was usually down to a short phone call from Rory asking “Gerry, do you fancy coming in to record an album/go on a tour…” Ted joined for several excellent 80’s Gallagher albums. The missing ‘Rory’ part of the Gallagher tribute band was found in the form of Dutch guitar wizard Marcel Scherpenzeel.

Classic Rocknight With Jethro Tull & Fish in 2019

Great news for all Rock music fans here in Bonn is that next year will see a new ‘Classic Rocknacht’ at the Kunst!Rasen next year.

Headlining will be one of the most popular progressive rock bands of all time – Jethro Tull, who celebrated their Golden Jubilee in 2018- headed by the legendary Ian Anderson.

Also appearing will be the former Marillion singer and now popular solo artist Fish, with a further guest to be added soon for the show, which will take place on 17 August 2019.

The Classic Rocknacht concerts have presented some amazing music over the years, with artists including Joe Bonamassa, Golden Earring, Little Feat, Deep Purple, Gov’t Mule, Joe Satriani and Dream Theater.  This will certainly be an evening not to be missed for Rockers.
