‚From Henry Purcell to Robert Johnson’. That’s what the top line of John Harrison’s typewritten notes for the evening said. A tall order, even for Bonn Folk Club, but John wasn’t bluffing as the December meet revealed. He even had a new instrument up his sleeve (or in the evenings case, one might say his poncho) in the form of a Gamba.
The live Folk Season continues at GoVinum in Bad Godesberg. This week it was the turn of Currach to whet the musical whistles of patrons. Luckily, they had a tin whistle at hand for the job, and we had John Harrison on hand to have his whistle whetted and send a report.
The Godesberger ‘Wein & Bierstube’ GoVinum is offering live Folk Music this month.
Regulars at Bonn Folk Club will recognize the names here so I don’t need to tell you a fine time will be had by all!

May is traditionally an important time in the Folk Calendar. In England Maypoles are danced around, in Germany they are hung high from the sides of houses. This makes it rather difficult for Folkdancers to do their thing. Maybe that’s why there were no Maypoles in the Gaststätte zum Schützenhaus on Friday. I must admit though I can’t quite imagine Barry and John hopping around with bells on their trousers. Best that they stick to what they do best – and that of course is, play music and entertain.
