Oli Brown & Dana Fuchs

I had been looking forward to this one all year. Oli Brown and Dana Fuchs on the same bill seemed like a dream for cash conscious Blues fans.  Two musicians who always give their all onstage yet seem to be different every time I see them. This time Dana had new songs and Oli a new haircut, but both had music and musicians backing them guaranteed to deliver super music at the Harmonie.

Love and Pogues in Paris

Yes, it’s an advert for the upcoming DVD, but if you missed their Cologne gig earlier in the year then here’s something for all Pogues fans to make up for it. I love the dramatic ‘Gladiators’ style opening but Shane MacGowan just waggles his head – and promptly steals the show…

Last Stop onThe Jazz Tube 2012

Jens BoekampIt seems like only yesterday that I descended the steps of Museumsmeile Tube Station en-route to a jazz date with Rod Mason and came face to face with a small group of people huddled round a charming young lady with an even more charming voice.  The voice I discovered belonged to Maya Fayeeda, and on Sunday evening I heard it again amongst the winners of this years Jazz Tube at Bonn Harmonie.

INTERVIEW WITH DANA FUCHS

Mr Sas at Mr Music

Julian Sas

If you’ve seen Julian Sas with his high energy Blues blasting the paintwork off the walls at the Harmonie then you’ll know he can play that Les Paul and that Firebird in the style of the best – Jimi, Rory, and a touch of Stevie Ray when needed.  Thursday saw Sas sitting on a stool in front of CD racks, with just an acoustic and mini amp for company.  No ‘Rob ‘Animal’ Heijne to power the drums or Tenny Tahamata to hammer down a bass riff.  Just Julian, an old guitar, and the Blues.  Magic time at Mr Music in Bonn City Centre.

Sunny Skies & Jazz

Sunny Skies & Maya Fadeeva will be brightening up the weekend in Bonn

This weekend has two special musical occasions that are well worth a visit:  On Saturday (20 Oct) Local heroes Sunny Skies celebrate 40 Years as a premier Bonn Band – The Bonn Voice Choir, and Hofgarten Orchestra will be joining Rope Schmitz and co to add even more oomph to the Band’s versions of classics like Queens Bohemian Rhapsody at Bruckenforum, and if the snippet shown on WDR television recently of rehearsals is anything to go by, it should be rather special.  Rope talked to 3SONGS about the Band recently – INTERVIEW HERE

Also this weekend,  Maya Fadeeva is just one of the musicians  appearing in the final concert of this years Jazztube competition run by SWB.  The three most popular bands from Bonn’s Tubestation competition, as voted for by the commuting public, will be laying down a smooth groove for sure at the Harmonie on Sunday (21st Oct).
