Stadtgarten Rocks to a close in 2018

Squinting into the harsh sunlight onto the stage before me, it’s all to clear that it’s almost Autumn – and this is the last Stadtgarten concert evening of 2018.

Will the final notes played this year be amongst the most memorable? Gentree, Galactic Superlords and Electric Sandwich are about to answer my question. No question that the band names are amongst the quirkiest of this, or indeed any year, but will the music be as interesting as the monikers? This is also a first for The Harmonie as a contributing partner to the Stadtgarten season.

Let the music commence…

PopCamp presents at Stadtgarten

Popcamp has been a key point of contact for young musicians for some time now. Friday’s concert at Stadtgarten showed why, as local singer/songwriter Clara Clasen was followed by the power-pop of Lenna from Bremen and Münster Garage-pop band Soeckers. Three confident performances showing that an extra polish of training truly makes a difference between playing music and playing music live.

Classic Rock for connoisseurs – John Illsley and Roger Hodgson at Kunst!Rasen

Forty years ago, I would quite possibly have considered walking over broken glass to get to a double concert featuring Dire Straits and Supertramp.   That was then of course, and this is now: For Dire Straits tonight,  read bassist and co-founder John Illsley.  For Supertramp read Co-founder, writer, arranger and singer Roger Hodgson.  Maybe not Dire Straits and Supertramp then at Kunst!Rasen – but certainly, for the latter at least, worth walking over broken glass whilst wearing sturdy shoes.  In the event, no broken glass, just very dry grass was underfoot for the penultimate concert by the Rhine in 2018.

Stadtmusik 2018

Sipping a cool glass of wine on a sunny Summers day, Relaxing live music wafting on a slight breeze, with no waiting at an airport or hotel bill. Bonn City Centre on Stadtmusik 2018 Day was indeed like a one day holiday on Saturday. Friedensplatz, Bottlerplatz, Markt and later Stadtgarten were the ‘holiday’ locations and, much like that beach radio, if you didn’t care for the music on offer you just needed to change your location but with your feet rather than a dial.

Stadtgarten Season kicks off in the sun

AW2_5466

For many people in Bonn, particularly teenagers and students, the Stadtgarten season at Alten Zoll is already an institution. An extension almost of the numerous teenagers often seen and heard in the shade of the University trees strumming guitars as the sun goes down. I’m sure that opening act in 2018, Cynthia Nickschas, has been one of those strummers. This time around though she had an audience of well over 2000 picnicking on the grass beside her. French electro Folkies Fergessen, Indie-Rockers Koj and Jazz quartet Radius completed the opening weekend of music under the setting sun.
