New Heroes – Blues Caravan 2013
Under the title ‘Tomorrows Guitar Heroes‘ the Blues Caravan 2013 line-up has been finalised.
Bonn Blues fans will already know two of the youngsters performing: Brit Joanne Shaw Taylor toured with the Caravan a couple of years ago which makes her the Tours ‘Old Hand’ in name anyway. Canadian Jimmy Bowskill is already popular here after his shows at Museumsplatz and last year at the Harmonie (see also our previous interviews with Jimmy). New to European audiences will be Bart Walker. Living in Nashville, Walker won last years prestigious ‘Gibson Guitar Best Blues Guitarist’ Award in the ‘International Blues Challenge’. Further proof of his promise and ability is that his band includes Reese Wynans, formerly keyboard player with the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Good news too is that, in addition to Ian McKeown on bass from the Jimmy Bowskill Band, this years man on the drum stool will once again be the man nominated last year by 3Songsbonn as best drummer: Frenchman Denis Palatin.
Tourdates are in the pipeline.
Sunny end to Sommergarten
Sunday 26 April saw the last Sommergarten Concert at Rheinhotel Dreesen for 2012 with local heroes Sunny Skies.
If you did`t make it to Rheinstrasse for the show, make a date in your diaries for 20th October when the Band will be joined by BonnVoice and the Hofgarten Orchestra to celebrate it’s 40th Anniversary in style at Bonn Bruckenforum.
Jazz Tube August
If you caught some cool Jazz from the JazzTube at one of Bonn’s Subway Stations on Friday (24 August) you might like to vote for the musicians behind the music. The winning Band will appear at the Harmonie in October.

Too hot to shop
With record temperatures for the year, Bonn Centre was strangely empty of shoppers on Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t empty of music though…
In celebration of the Bonn Münster receiving a Holy Relic of the Empress Helena, who founded the original Church on the site, there are Celebrations in the Centre of Bonn. Which is a roundabout way of explaining why Hanne Kah from Wiesbaden was heard duetting on a balcony opposite Strauss to an appreciative audience of tired shoppers taking refuge in the shadows around the Martins Fountain.

Spicing Up The Kunst!Rasen
With the excellent news recently that Bonn will be allowed to continue with it’s Open Air Venue the Kunst!Rasen, promoters Ernst-Ludwig Hartz and Martin Nötzel will have a busy time ahead planning and booking. Maybe readers of ‘3SongsBonn’ can help them out? Who would you like to see down by the Rhine in Gronau next year? What changes to the Kunst!rasen Site would you welcome? 3Songs makes some (not always completely serious) suggestions for 2013.
Jazz in August
Jazz fans in Bonn still have a lot to enjoy as the current Flyer shows.

Thir(s)ty Years of The Pogues
Labelled by Rolling Stone as ‚The Musical equivalent of a pub crawl’ The Pogues were in Cologne at the Tanzbrunnen on Tuesday to celebrate their suitably titled ’Thir(s)ty Years’ Anniversary Tour.
I knew the plastic beer glasses would be flying, and I was pretty certain the 7pm start was more a hope than a statement of intent. I was certain too that the main question on everyone’s minds would be the same as it was in Bonn last year: ‘How will Shane be?’. Which is a pity, because people really should read their tickets more closely. It doesn’t say ‘Shane MacGowen & Band’ it says ‘The Pogues’ – and they are a great Band in their own right.
