With all the uncertainty over future gigs at Museumsplatz there is still plenty of guaranteed music pleasure to come in Bonn.
Latest attractions to the Harmonie concert hall in Endenich are the legendary Dr Feelgood (left) with a very special guest in the form of young Canadian Blues star Jimmy Bowskill (5 February) Proof of Bowskill’s pedigree as a guitar vituoso is his last date in Bonn at the Museumsplatz on the bill with Joe Bonamassa and Jeff Beck. Also booked in February are another legendary British Act The Blues Band, led by Paul Jones of BBC radio Blues fame. There are lots of other top acts to look forward to, as a look at the revamped Harmonie website will reveal.
American Slide guitar man extraordinaire Eric Sardinas will be back with his band ‘Big Motor’. Henrik Freischlader- fresh from a successful first tour of the UK – will be the star bass player for Tommy Schneller and Canadian blues songstress (my tip for future stardom) Layla Zoe. Finland’s own Erja Lyytinen with Meena Cryle are not to be missed. Mark’s brother and fellow Dire Straits founder David Knopfler will be in town, as will the ‘evergreen‘ Mitch Ryder. Ana Popovic (whose new CD charted on Billboard Blues straight in at 11th place) will be back with her excellent band for an evening of the finest modern Blues. I well remember Asaf Avidan from his appearance on the Cologne Rocknacht a couple of years ago – A falsetto voice in Rock? You better believe it! Finally, what would November be without the ever popular Julian Sas? With the likes of (ex-Rory Gallagher) Nine Below Zero and local favourites Sunny Skies booked for early in the New Yeartoo there is clearly lots of great music coming Bonn’s way.
