Did I tell you how much good local music there is in Bonn? Several times? Well that’s because it’s true. More proof was Saturday’s celebration of the Regional Rock/Pop ‘Toys To Masters’ competition that got together talented bands to commemorate the competitions 20th birthday. 3 Songs caught two of the bands who rocked Alter Zoll – Dead Mans Eyes and Steal a Taxi
It’s not the easiest of times for live music in Bonn right now. Even so, there are days when it really is a pleasure to be in this City and when when you realise there is still a lot to be very pleased about musically. One of those days was Saturday. A day of Sunny Skies and Flowers. To be more accurate –Sunny Skies Bonn’s best cover band, and Blümchenknicker – Bonn’s best band for being, well, different. If you wanted to show Bonn and it’s people at their Summery best then this was the opportunity.
“Music for brains and bums” is how Blümchenknicker (Flowerbender) describe their music collective. ‘Band’ is too small a word for so large a group.
If you enjoyed Genesis coverband Still Collins at the recent Bonn Beer Festival then you catch them again soon.
They play at Gloria in Cologne on 26 September (8pm). Certainly worth catching if, like me, you thought they were somewhat quiet due to volume limitations at the Rheinaue venue.
An entertaining mix of Django Reinhardt, Gypsy, Flamenco, Reggae, Ska, Polka, Country, Rockabilly und Ballads with tongue in cheek German language songs.
There should be something for everybody when Blümchenknicker, the large and lively band set around the colourfully named Bender ‘Corleone’ Flowers take the small stage at Kunstrasen on Saturday 2 August (6.30pm to 8pm).
They made for a lively show not too long ago supporting Lauter Leben so give them a listen – and as always at Kunstgarten it’s FREE!
Can a man from Bonn Beuel sound like a man from London Hounslow? It certainly didn’t hamper his chances of my finding the voices similar that The Phil Collins coverband Still Collinswere playing at a Beer Festival.
