Concert Calendar for Bonn

Unbenannt

Many thanks to Stefanie Kellner for permission to add her excellent calendar of music events in Bonn to this website (see the left hand links) If you are appearing in, or promoting for, a musical event here in the Bonn area then you can also use the calendar to add your own event.

Despite every care concerts are very often frail creatures that can be moved, start earlier, be postponed or even wiped completely from Gods’s Earth – so neither Stefanie or 3songsbonn hold themselves responsible for errors, omissions or changes.  Otherwise, I hope the calendar will help keep track of the many things happening here in Bonn.
Check back regularly!

Max is Alright at the last Kunst!Garten

Lots of happy faces, children playing, people laughing, eating and drinking on a warm and sunny Summer evening.  So why do I feel sad?  Because it’s the last time they will be doing this down between the lake and the Kunst!Rasen.  There is music from Westerwald band Max is Alright to lift my spirits though and a spirit of ‘Carry On regardless’ that by evening’s, and venues end where the Kunst!Garten is concerned, makes me feel a bit more optimistic.

New Jazz Tube – New Website in English

Eagle eyed readers will have noticed that the links to click on to the right of this screen once again include the Jazz Tube logo.  Further good news for Jazz fans and English speakers this week is that, in celebration of starting it’s sixth year next week (5 August), Jazz Tube now has an English version of it’s website online.  It’s particularly appropriate given the international nature of the music on offer which, as Founder and co-presenter Thomas Kimmerle, explains  “ is underlined by the musician Waldemar Lezckowski from Bonn who is performing with a 5-member formation from 4 different nations at this year’s JazzTube.  Flutist Morgana Moreno, a student of the Bonn musician Michael Heupel and now living in Rotterdam, will take the audience with Brazilian sounds from her home country in the southern globe”.

Bookended by a showcase concert at Alten Zoll  to start, and a three day showcase Festival at the Pantheon Theatre to finish, Jazz Tube 2017 promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Saturday, Summer and Bonn

Always worth keeping an ear open in the hope of good music when shopping.

Today I came across these two young gentlemen, Tobias and Michal aka ‘Al Son de la Sombra’ brightening up the Markplatz with their classical guitars and gentle rhythms.  Under the watchful eye of Ludwig of course!

Under Stars and Rain with Amy MacDonald

With her latest CD title ‘Under Stars’ Amy MacDonald aims to prove that we are never far from others – on Earth we’re all under the same stars.  On Tuesday evening though the song may have been better titled ‘Under Umbrellas’ as the last evening of Kunst!Rasen 2017 saw relentless rain turning the ‘Rasen’ into a rather un’Kunsty’ pile of mud.  MacDonald was clearly surprised at the c.5000 people in front of her: “Thank you all for coming despite the weather – and for being so colourful with your coats and umbrellas!”.  It almost made me forget that the rain was starting to soak through my coat.  Almost…

The Achievers

Untitled-1

Coming Tuesday (25 July) to Zone Blues Bar (Maxstrasse 2A in Bonn)…

The Achievers are a UK band specialising in vintage dance music. They light-up events with a setlist packed full of rhythm & blues, jump-blues, boogie-woogie, gospel and a hint of southern soul – music that inspires even the most casual of dancers.

Armed with original songs and a wealth of reworked R&B barnstormers – cherry-picked from the 40s, 50s and 60s – they are just starting to establish a name for themselves on the UK and European blues scene and this will be their very first European Tour, in support of a brand new live album.

Admission from 8pm

On the roof with Jazz Clube

2015 ‘Jazztube’ winners Samba Jazz Clube Made for a perfect way to relax into a sleepy sunny Summer Sunday as a part of this year’s General Anzeiger Sommergarten.  Despite a gusty wind on the Bundeskunsthalle Roof  that made playing difficult at times, especially for Morgana Moreno’s delicate flute tones it was well worth setting the alarm before midday.

The band are a likeable combo, with ready smiles and Andre de Cayres regularly taking time between contra bass duties to announce the music (most of which is self compositions by the band).  The band are all Brazilian and the juxtaposition of Brazilian Samba rhythm with  improvised jazz is guaranteed to keep listeners on their toes.  Just hold on to your sun hat when the breeze hits!

There is still more to come from ‘up on the roof’ this Summer, so I recommend setting your own alarm clocks in time to catch Baum’s Bluesbenders with the Blues (6 August) and Andy Miles & Friends offering Melodic Jazz (20 August).  Bundeskunsthalle Roof – 11.30 am – 2.30 pm – Entrance Free!
