The Cultural Office of the City of Bonn will once again be presenting an exciting and varied music program on five weekends in August in the Stadtgarten am Alten Zoll. From August 2 to 31, the park will be transformed into a concert location where you can make many a discovery with free admission.
This year, the focus is particularly on female musicians – for example at the musicNRWwomen evening with Annelu and Stina Holmquist on 10 August. Women are also in the spotlight with many other bands during the concert season. The spectrum of this year’s shows ranges from global music and folk to electro-pop, rock, and jazz.
The season kicks off with a JazzTube special on 2 August featuring Bernard & The Mibus and the Leon Dehne Quintett. Note: Jazztube proper begins on 23 August DETAILS
As in previous years, there will be special presentation concerts including a Country Folk night on 16 August. Good news if you are shopping on Saturday 10 August in Bonn Centre, Bad Godesberg or Hardtberg – the music will come to you! There will be various stages dotted about the City and varied musicians to entertain you. For details of the Stadtmusik Tag CLICK HERE
There will be a lot happening during the Stadtgarten concerts, as you will see from the link.
Here are some tips:
Magdalene Ganther impressed me greatly when she played the Stadtgarten a couple of years ago, so 17 August is a tip. There’s not a lot of Blues this year, but if quantity is lacking then quality is not, with Bill Baum and his Bluesbenders guaranteed to have people dancing on 30 August.

Finally, the final concert of the season on 31 August features celebrated local contemporary Jazz outfit Jin Jim centered around the flute of Daniel Manrique-Smith. It will be an unusual evening, particularly since I can’t remember ever seeing a ‘Flute Evening’ on the concert menu – but support will be the French duo Rosaway whose singer has a unique voice and fuses Blues, Rock, Pop and Jazz into what can only be described as Rosaway music. Incidentally, you just might recognize the man behind the drums – he is Stephane Avellaneda, the figure on my ‘About This Site’ image and for some time the drummer with Ana Popovic – including at her support slot for BB King at Museumsplatz. Here is a snatch of what to expect:
