Major Concerts Banned until September

Large concerts have now been officially banned until September.  Exactly what will constitute a ‘Large concert’ has not yet been formally announced, but it will certainly mean the cancellation of concerts at KunstRasen, Hofgarten and Grafenwerth in Bonn from Robbie Williams and Kraftwerk at Hofgarten and Sting at the Kunstrasen (the latter now two years running).  Promoters like Ernst-Ludwig Hartz of NoiseNow will be working hard to reschedule what was looking to be a very special year inspired by the Beethoven celebrations in the City.

Fingers crossed that 2021 will still be available for great music and musicians in Bonn…

Larkin Poe – Self Made Men

If, like me, you were looking forward to seeing the Lovell sisters Megan and Rebecca in Cologne this year here’s the bad news – the Larkin Poe concert at Live Music Hall has been cancelled.  There is good news though: The show has now been rescheduled for 14 March 2021.  If that seems like an eternity away (it does to me!) then check out the new single from the upcoming album above, or the live streams starting on 18 April.

In the meantime enjoy the video – Self Made Man!

BonnLive – Fighting for The Arts in Bonn with Livestreamed Events

If you can’t get to the music, let the music come to you.  This seems to be the motto of a new initiative for musicians in Bonn.  bonnlive.com will be streaming live from several locations in Bonn over the coming weeks, the first stream being a #STAYATHOME session on 13 April (6.00 pm) introducing musicians set to feature in this year’s Over The Border Festival The Festival itself has been moved to End of August/September.  Bonnlive.com will also see Bonn’s own Makeda make local history by being the first female singer to stream from the roof of the DHL Post Tower (7.30 pm on 14 April)

The bonnlive.com initiative was born out of the closure of live events that started due to Covid-19 in mid-March.  There are various planned livestreams involving cabaret and comedy as well as music, and donations will be split between the various Cultural Agents who are currently unable to put on shows and consequently are threatened for their very existence.  BonnLive itself is a joint project between the two young Bonn event agencies RheinEvents and five-three event agency (founders of the Panama Open Air and Green Juice Festival). Sandro Heinemann of RheinEvents explains: “In the times of the Corona crisis we did not want to sit around idly, but to help support the Bonn cultural scene with its locations and events.” – “When Bonners are at home, we bring culture to them At home – a win-win situation, ”adds Julian Reininger from the five-three event agency.

The initiative is supported by various partners from Bonn and the region, such as WetterOnline, Bechtle, Deutsche Post DHL Group, Sparkasse KölnBonn, Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg, Radio Bonn / Rhein-Sieg and Kreativrudel.

Blues in Britain cover

With typical Blues fortune, 3songsbonn.com has a picture on the front page of an international magazine for the first time – and it’s in a month that most shops are closed.

Still, I’m pleased to see my image of Mike Zito on the cover of the UK based ‘Blues in Britain’ for April – pleased also that it’s helping to promote one of the best and nicest musicians on the music circuit.

Jeremiah is Nr 1

Hats off to Jeremiah Johnson.  The talented man from Missouri has just shot to top spot on the coveted American Billboard Blues Chart with his latest release ‘Heaven’s To Betsy’.

It won’t be a surprise though to anyone who caught Jeremiah at the Harmonie on this year’ s supercharged Blues Caravan Tour.
