Open Air 2020 in Bonn – Kulturgarten

Peter Brings is plainly happy that live music is coming back to Bonn

With plenty of sunshine in the Bonn sky there is now a ray of hope for Bonn’s music-lovers.  ‘Kulturgarten’ is the name, and it aims to bring some major bands to the Rheinaue including Brings, Die Höhner, Nena and Kasalla.   Even better is that we don’t have very long to wait – The opening show will be in less than a month’s time,  on 16th July with Bukahara.

The Kulturgarten in the Rheinauenpark is offering Corona-compliant concerts for up to 2,000 visitors.  It will be situated on the small flower meadow part of Bonn’s Rheinauenpark
Plots will be allocated to groups of ticket buyers (maximum of 10 per plot) The individual plots will be separated from each other in a corona-compliant manner by a 1.5 m wide quarantine strip.

Sun loungers.  In the middle will be beer table sets, and further back, space for picnic blankets. There will also be catering for the visitors on the square. and a ‘one-way street’ system will ensure that there are defined walkways to the squares and the toilets.

The cultural garden is organized by five-three event agency and RheinEvents. The two companies have plenty of open-air experience, having been organizing the Green Juice Festival and the Panama Open Air for many years. As a result of the Corona Crisis the two agencies joined forces to create the BonnLive cultural stream, whose 87 streams were viewed no less than 300,000 times!  This raised more than 11,000 euros in donations for the Bonn cultural scene.   The joint venture also brought us The Bonn Live drive-in concerts at the Westwerk which brought in more than 20,000 enthusiastic visitors to around 70 shows with artists of all styles and from all over Germany.

The Kulturgarten organizers see the shows as the next step in the direction of “normality at a distance”. “A big thank you goes to the city of Bonn, who quickly checked our project and declared it to be approved,” says Julian Reininger, who is one of the managing directors of the five-three event agency. Other supporters of the Festival are the Deutsche Post DHL Group, IT Company Bechtle and Deutsche Telekom. “We are incredibly proud that we have not only well-known artists but also well-known supporters who support our projects so spontaneously and permanently,” explains Reininger. “Deutsche Post has been there from the start. Without that, BonnLive would not exist like this.
